This was revealed on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 when a team from the university paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research, Production and Extension.

Mr. Ashley Francis, Executive Director, Finance, University of Cape Town said, “University of Cape Town is 100 years old and one of the best in research in South Africa. We would want to change the way we do things in our next 100 years in terms of alternative funding and business model.”

Prof. Julius Ogeng’o, Director, Centre for Self Sponsored students gave a brief history of how UoN has invested in different businesses and the challenges that led the UoN to go to income generation. He said that the Center for Self sponsored students has been the main alternative funding for the University contributing up to 96% of internally generated funds.

The benchmarking exercise continues with research, student exchange and more on alternative funding being the areas of discussion between the two parties hence enhancing the partnership that the two institutions have had.
