ended 30th June 2009.     .:;
During the year under review the University realized a surplus of Kshs. 293,330,097 as compared to a surplus of
Kshs. 124,674,898 for the year 2007/2008. The cumulative deficit for the University as at 30th June 2009 was
Kshs 294,913,005 compared to the. deficit of Kshs. 588,243,102 as at 30th June 2008. The financial performance in
the current year was mainly impacted by expansion of academic programmes, refurbishment of teaching facilities,
increase of personal emoluments arising from the industrial court award and the conclusion of the respective Collective
Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) for the three staff unions. As in the previous years the additional expenditure was not
matched by Government funding.
Despite these challenges, the University continued with its tight financial controls in the management of the available
resources. The university intensified income-generating activities especially through its various campus colleges as
well as the subsidiary company, the University of Nairobi Enterprises and Services Limited (UNES).
Donor agencies and other governments continued to support the University of Nairobi. During the year under review,
