UoN and Jagiellonian University discuss cooperation.

The University of Nairobi and Jagiellonian University, Poland, have entered into discussions on the possibility of engaging in scientific and educational cooperation through the Erasmus programme.

The fields of possible cooperation are tourism, environmental studies, geography and land and protected areas management.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Production and Extension, Prof. Lucy Irungu said that UoN through Centre of Advanced Studies in Environmental Law and Policy (CASELAP) and the Department of Geography are best placed to work effectively with Jagiellonian University.

“The University of Nairobi is a wide discipline institution of higher education,” she said. “We are committed to partnerships that are of mutual benefit. We do hope that we can cement this cooperation once all negotiations are done.”

Prof. Miroslaw Mika, the research team leader, Jagiellonian University, said that his team was looking to establish links with African universities, especially UoN.

As a way forward, it was agreed that the faculty from CASELAP and the Department of Geography will engage further with Jagiellonian University.
