Students to vote for leaders at the first UNSA elections

The elections scheduled for Friday, April 13th, 2018, is the first under the new University of Nairobi Student Association (UNSA) 2017 Constitution.

“The UNSA 2018 Independent Electoral Commission has made all necessary arrangements for the Campus Association elections to be conducted on Friday April 13th, 2018 from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m,” said Prof. M.A. Jama, the Chairman, Independent Electoral Commission, UNSA 2018. “The Commission, therefore, calls upon all students both undergraduate and postgraduate to turn up and exercise their civic and democratic right to vote and elect their preferred Campus Students Association Teams.”

The election exercise will take place across Campus constituencies’ at various polling stations. Counting, tallying and announcements of elections outcome of voting will be done at the respective campuses. The voting stations will be at campus level.

According to the UNSA 2017 Constitution, the Students’ Council shall consist of a chairperson, vice-chairperson (who shall be of opposite gender with the chairperson), secretary-general, treasurer and three other members to represent special interests of students. During an election, the Constitution states that at least two thirds of electors in the Electoral Colleges shall participate in the election of the Students’ Council.
