The University of Nairobi will hold a research week from 22nd to 26 October 2019 to showcase the wide innovation and research activities of the University in line with Kenya’s Vision 2030, SDG goals, and the Big 4 Agenda so as to bring together global researchers through a series of international conferences. In this regard the African Women’s Studies Centre (AWSC) of the University of Nairobi will hold a conference from October 22nd to 25th with the theme: “African Women’s Journey: Taking Stock”. The aim of the conference is to bring together scholars involved in research on areas such as; gender issues, policy and practice, women’s socio-economic empowerment; women, politics, leadership, and governance as well as documenting and preserving African women’s knowledge and experiences. This conference will provide an opportunity for networking among scholars from various backgrounds and enable participants to share practical solutions for achieving gender equality both at local, national and regional levels in order to achieve the gender equality and equity. In light of this, the AWSC invites abstracts from interested scholars on the following thematic areas - 

  • Women and politics
  • Women and Socio-economic empowerment
  • Women and health
  • Women and technology
  • Women and the environment
  • Legal systems and women’s empowerment
Those Interested should submit full papers with abstract(s) of 250 words in English by June 30th, 2019 via the African Women’s Studies Centre conference email:saw2018@uonbi.ac.ke to the attention of conference ChairpersonThe Conference Organizing Committee will review the papers and respond by July 31st, 2019. Paper, presenters will be required to register for the conference by June 30th, 2019. Papers of participants who will not have registered as per the above date will not be included in the conference programme and the participant will forfeit their chance of participation respectively. For more information, see the attached document.
