The Government of Kenya (Kenya Youth Employment Opportunities Program) with the support from the World Bank has launched a Business Plan Competition for young people below age of 35 years to present  their Winning Business Plan for funding. 
 
Over 750 youth with be granted with a minimum of Kshs 900,000 and maximum of Kshs 3.6 million to start their businesses. 
 
The competition will run for three months between June 24-Sep 2, 2019 and KPMG Advisory Services has been contracted to run the competition.  
 
The 750 winners will be notified in November 2019 and will be undertaken 3 months business training from Dec 2019 to Feb 2020.

The Ethiopian government has made an appeal for enhanced collaboration between Ethiopian universities and the University of Nairobi.

Speaking at the University of Nairobi during the commemoration of the 55th Anniversary of the Ethio-Kenyan diplomatic relations, the ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, His Excellency Meles Alem, said there is little collaboration between the two nations despite their strong diplomatic relations.

The envoy said Kenya and Ethiopia are home to more than 100 universities yet the level of collaboration between the two nations are a few professors teaching in Ethiopian universities and few Ethiopian students studying in Kenyan universities.

The University of Nairobi staff and students were among thousands of Kenyans who brazed the chilly Sunday morning weather to participate in the First Lady Half Marathon that took place on Sunday, March 10, 2019.

The University was one of the corporate sponsors that took part in the half marathon. A team of 10 staff and students led by the Director, Corporate Affairs participated in this year’s marathon that was attended by the former Prime Minister of Ethiopia and his spouse.

The UoN VC, Prof. Peter Mbithi was speaking at the official opening of the 3rd Innovation Research Symposium at the UoN Towers on Friday, March 8, 2019.

“The process of getting a degree helps you understand the society and the problems within the society. The university is the boiling point for societal transformations. We don’t have a lot of research in undergraduate level; this is a call of action to all young lecturers and researchers to continue to research and innovate,” He remarked.
