The two ministers of Education from Kenya and the French Republic have discussed the prospects of the French-Kenyan cooperation in the field of higher education and research, summed up in the roadmap on university, innovation, research and professional training partnerships signed yesterday at State House in the presence of H.E Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya, and Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic.

President Macron Inspires Young Kenyans

In a lively debate between the President of the French Republic, H.E. Emmanuel Macron and the youth in Kenya on Thursday March 14, 2019; President Macron encouraged the youth that through global partnerships the challenges faced in Kenya can be overcome. “You may think that here in Kenya you have more challenges than we have in France; Challenges are common. Through coming together we can write a different story for our countries and our world.”

University of Nairobi unveils Strategic Plan for 2019-2023

The University of Nairobi leadership led by the Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi and the Chair of Council, Dr. Julia Ojiambo unveiled the five year strategic plan from 2019-2023. The management team addressed the strengths, opportunities that can be explored to help move the university forward.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi observed that going forward, the University will be engaging more in cutting edge research that have intellectual impact and is beneficial to the society.  On brand positioning and visibility, the VC noted that engagement with the public will be key to help the University in communicating its achievements. Regarding finances, Prof. Mbithi opined that financial resources will be properly allocated and deployed to help in teaching, research and innovation.

University of Nairobi participates in Beyond Zero Half Marathon

The University of Nairobi staff and students were among thousands of Kenyans who brazed the chilly Sunday morning weather to participate in the First Lady Half Marathon that took place on Sunday, March 10, 2019.

The University was one of the corporate sponsors that took part in the half marathon. A team of 10 staff and students led by the Director, Corporate Affairs participated in this year’s marathon that was attended by the former Prime Minister of Ethiopia and his spouse.

Young Researchers urged to rigorously research and Innovate.

“A good university, if it has to be good, must do research; academic discourse is diminishing in the universities.”

The UoN VC, Prof. Peter Mbithi was speaking at the official opening of the 3rd Innovation Research Symposium at the UoN Towers on Friday, March 8, 2019.

“The process of getting a degree helps you understand the society and the problems within the society. The university is the boiling point for societal transformations. We don’t have a lot of research in undergraduate level; this is a call of action to all young lecturers and researchers to continue to research and innovate,” He remarked.

The Vice Chancellor urges new students to focus on their studies.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi, called upon the new students to be responsible, disciplined and focused in their studies.

“Make choices that will make you a dignified person-avoid drugs and irresponsible behavior there is a lot to gain from being disciplined."

In his official address to the first year students from the College of Humanities and Social sciences (CHSS), the VC congratulated the new students on their admission to the University of Nairobi.

UoN hosts African Symposium on Sustainability Science

The University of Nairobi played host to the first Africa symposium on Sustainability Science, where participants were urged to come on board and champion the success of Sustainability Science.

Sustainability science,  is an emerging field of research dealing with the interactions between natural and social systems, and with how those interactions affect the challenge of sustainability; meeting the needs of present and future generations while substantially reducing poverty .
