The University signs Performance Contract 2014/2015 with Colleges and Central Departments

The Performance Contract signing ceremony for the financial year 2014/2015 was held today Thursday 21st, August, 2014 at the Council Chambers.

The signing ceremony was between the University and the Colleges and 20 Departments from Central Administration. Leading the signing ceremony was the University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George Magoha.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, the University Vice-Chancellor urged the College Principals and the Heads of Departments to do their best to maintain the status of the University as a Center of Excellence.  He also took the opportunity to thank the University managers for having accorded him the ample time to work and lift the university standards both in terms of infrastructure and rankings.

“I am proud to have worked with you. The university continues to receive high accolades wherever I go,” the Vice-Chancellor told the College Principals and the Heads of Departments.  Prof. Magoha took cognizance of the transition period and urged the managers to train new crop of leadership, so that the university can always remain at the top.

The Performance Contract Coordinator, Prof. Peter Mbithi, who is also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration and Finance), noted that this year’s Performance Contract was guided by the 11th Cycle Performance Contract guidelines. He further said that all the College Principals and the Heads of Departments have negotiated their Performance Contracts.

Prof. Mbithi divulged that the government has put emphasis on Medium Plan II and Vision 2030. “Not only are we expected to meet the targets, but we are required to meet and surpass the targets,” he said.

Among other key indicators the government is keen on include; the empowerment of women, youth and the disabled persons, youth internships and apprenticeships and zero tolerance on corruption.

After the signing ceremony, the university top management comprising of the Deputy Vice-Chancellors and College Principals and heads of departments took a tour of the University Towers to have a meticulous understanding of the ongoing construction work.

The University towers will domicile University Council Chambers, lecture theaters, art cultural center and staff offices.

LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE FOR UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI TOWERS

His Exellency, the President Uhuru Kenyatta,Her Exellency, the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, the Deputy President, William Ruto, Cabinet Secretary Education, Science and Technology Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi,Cabinet Secretary, Interior and Coordination of National Government Joseph Ole Lenku among other dignitaries joined the University of Nairobi top management and community at large in laying the foundation stone for the University of Nairobi Towers.

President Kenyatta commended the University management and the council for their effort and their resilience in raising funds from internal sources towards the construction of the towers. 

The Deputy President, William Ruto an almni of the University of Nairobi remarked how he remembered with nostalgia his first moments at the University as a first year.

The Vice Chancellor Prof. George Magoha thanked the university's management team in steering the University of Nairobi to great heights in academic achievements and growth both locally and internationally which he said was no mean feat.

The University of Nairobi towers a 22 storey project which is one of the largest construction projects the university has emabarked on in recent past will house  the Vice-Chancellor’s Suite, Senate Boardroom, Council Meeting Room state of the art lecture theaters and the School of Business .

His Exellency the president, reitarated the need for cooperation, in moving kenya forward through partnership for development of the various sectors among them education.

The Cabinet Secretary, Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi, University of Nairobi Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi and Chairman of Council, Dr. Idle Farah also spoke during the auspicious occasion.
