Multinationals’ dividends from NSE drop by Sh10bn

Dividends paid out to multinationals for their controlling stakes in Nairobi Securities Exchange-listed firms are set to drop by 21 percent this year as a few blue-chips reduced their payouts by significant amounts.

Multinational firms including Vodacom Group, Diageo Plc, WPP Plc and BAT Plc have received or are set to get a total of Sh38.4 billion based on the latest distribution announcements.

History as UoN Conducts Examinations Remotely

The University of Nairobi has today achieved a milestone by successfully conducting its first ever end of semester examinations online.

More than 20 students taking Master of Arts in Environmental Law and Master of Arts in Environmental Policy were able to sit for their examinations right from the comfort of their homes.

The university shifted to online examinations in order to provide students with options to complete their studies at a time when face-to-face exams are impossible to be held because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Absa posts 3pc profit growth in first quarter

Absa Kenya reported a three percent net profit growth in the first quarter ended March, weighed down by costs of separating from its former parent company Barclays Plc.

The lender’s net profit stood at Sh1.95 billion in the review period compared to Sh1.89 billion a year earlier.

Its cost of rebranding to Absa, captured as exceptional items, increased 2.2 times to Sh552 million.

“The investment in transition programme will continue to have an impact on our financial results,” Absa said in a statement.
