Anne Mwangi is the new UNSA Boss!

Anne Mwangi Mvurya is the new University of Nairobi student leader. She is the first female student leader after nearly 50 years of existence of the student body. Anne was sworn in on April 7, 2019 in Taifa Hall, Main Campus.

University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi congratulated the new student leader.

"I am happy to be part of the new transformation that is taking place at the University. It is the first time in the history of the University of Nairobi to have a female student leader,” he said. He took the opportunity to thank the Independent Electoral Commission for the wonderful work in conducting the elections. “I have endeavored to infuse peace and fairness. I am happy to be given a team that has been elected by Independent Electoral Commission. This is the greatest moment of this university. I wish you well. May the good Lord bless you and guide you as you take the mantle of leadership,” he said.

Prof. Mbithi took the opportunity to thank the outgoing Chairman of UNSA, Mr. Antony Manyara. He was the first ever Chairman of UNSA after the original student body was rebranded to UNSA.

The students’ elections were free, fair, transparent and credible. This was revealed by the UNSA Returning Officer, Prof. Mohamud Jama, who is also the Deputy Principal, College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Prof. Jama observed that as a Commission, they had pledged to conduct a free and fair elections. “We pledged to adhere to various documents that govern elections. University Act 2012, UNSA Constitution, Kenya Constitution 2010 and all other relevant documents. We believe we conducted a free, fair and credible elections”, he said.

After 22 intense days, 13 teams applied to participate in the elections, 3 teams were cleared. This is unlike last year where only one team was cleared.
