The University of Nairobi through the Department of Chemistry has collaborated with BASF, one of the world’s leading chemical companies, to produce a hand wash that will be distributed for free in urgent need areas as part of the company’s global “Helping Hands” initiative.
THE University of Nairobi donated 8,000 500ml liquid hand wash to the Council of Governors, the hand wash is branded ChiroClean (Chiromo Clean), a product of the Chemistry Department, Chiromo Campus. Leading the University of Nairobi team was the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama Gitahi
The two institutions believe that the current pandemic can be controlled if we all work together by following government guidelines as well as taking special action to make a contribution to the communities in which we operate. We all have a role to play to help alleviate the impact of the pandemic.
In addition to the donation of 8,000pcs 500ml bottles of handwash, BASF will contribute to the development of technical expertise and best practices by supporting the university’s Detergent Production Unit to enhance local production of quality handwash and sanitizers leveraging on the company’s global expertise.
“The production and donation of such quality and affordable handwash to the counties is a testimony that partnerships between Universities and Industries are a critical bridge in development. It can create positive impact on the community,” said Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kiama Gitahi. “The donation is consistent with our key value of CARE and the University’s mission to impact on communities through its core mandates”.
