Prof. Attiya Waris’ book titled "Financing Africa" is a culmination of research undertaken over a ten year period. The book serves as a commentary on taxation and how taxpayers' money is used as well as a guide to understanding public finances in Africa. It creates an opportunity to widen the knowledge base in developing countries; specifically, on how Africa's fiscal systems were intended to and can subsequently be used to support development and alleviate poverty.

Prof. Waris is the ag. Deputy Principal, College Humanities and Social Sciences and Director of Research at the University of Nairobi. She is   one of the most influential women in the fiscal space today and it’s not just because of her book but the overall work she does both at the University of Nairobi and at the Committee on Fiscal Studies (CFS). Founded with the sole intention of preparing the next generation in fiscal matters by investing in researchers on the African continent, the CFS has attracted and mentored researchers from across the continent; Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Somalia and Tanzania amongst other countries. Congratulations to Professor Waris on the successful virtual book launch and wish her all the best in her endeavors; especially in raising African voices.

When the Covid-19 pandemic struck and interrupted the physical launch that was set for March 2020, the organizing team (Committee on Fiscal Studies, OXFAM a Civil Society Organisation and Media Personalities) resolved to do a virtual book launch on Twitter.

The virtual book launch was hosted on the OXFAM Twitter page with the #FinancingAfrica on June 19, 2020. The author was available on Twitter to engage the audience and respond to their questions..

Local orders and deliveries of hard copies of the book can be done from info.cfs@uonbi.ac.ke
