CBK faces protest over free money transfers

CBK introduced the measures to encourage cashless payments on mobile phones because the government said avoiding the physical use of cash would help contain the spread of the virus in the country.

Under the CBK directive, mobile phone money transaction fees under Sh1,000 are free with banks removing charges for customers moving cash between their mobile wallets and bank accounts.

Expelled students get reprieve

In an address to the University of Nairobi community, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama announced that he has asked the Senate to review cases of suspended students with a view of readmitting them.

“A committee, chaired by Prof. Horace Ochanda, has been set up to review the cases of the expelled students and consider reinstatement,” he announced.  “We must exercise the core value of care. We need to give these students a second chance to complete their studies and graduate.”

Dental School gets PPE Donations

The University of Nairobi Dental School together with the University Health Services were the beneficiaries of the much needed tools in the fight of the deadly Corona Virus Disease, COVID19, the Personal protective equipment (PPE).

The generous donations were courtesy of several donors, key among them being; Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama, Operating Theatre Practitioners Association of Kenya (OTPAK) among other staff members from the Department of Surgery and School of Pharmacy.

Kenya’s Central Bank Retains Key Rate at 7 Percent

Kenya’s monetary policy committee retained the key lending rate at 7 percent during yesterday’s meeting. The team said that mitigation measures deployed since March have been having the desired outcome. The Monetary policy committee (MPC) said that leading indicators for the Kenyan economy for the second quarter suggest the impact of COVID19 on the economy was most pronounced in April, with evidence of recovery in May. CBK Maintains Free Mobile Money – Bank Transfers

The Central Bank of Kenya ( CBK) has determined that the mobile wallet and transaction limits that were announced on March 16th, 2020 will remain in force.

This means that there will be no charge for mobile money transfers below KSh 1,000. There will also be no charge by payment service providers and commercial banks for transfers between mobile money wallets and bank accounts. READ MORE..
