The Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies (WMI) acknowledges the contribution your organization is making in support of environmental protection and conservation. This is particularly so given that it is a constitutional requirement for every person to cooperate with State organs and other persons to protect and conserve the environment and ensure ecologically sustainable development and use of natural resources.


Wangari Maathai Institute of Peace and Environmental Studies in partnership with Wildlife Students Association-CAVS, Kiambu County Government, UN-Environment, UN- Habitat, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Kenya Association of Manufacturers, Edens Stewards, Amref Health Africa, One Health Club, Where Is The Love Kenya and Nivishe Initiative have organized a cleanup Exercise and a series of other side events in marking this year’s World Environment Day scheduled for Wednesday the 5th of June 2019. The venue of the event will be Wangari Maathai Institute’s Green Campus, University of Nairobi.


The event which is dubbed “Keep Ndumbo Clean, Keep me Healthy”
under the hashtag: “Towards a cleaner, healthier, sustainable Ndumbuini’’ is designed to provide a platform for initiating a long-term partnership initiative, and has the following objectives;


  1. Enhance hygiene and sanitation in Ndumbuni by mobilizing 400 residents to collect at least 3 tonnes of solid waste for safe disposal.
  2. Organize a free medical camp to offer diagnostic and curative healthcare services to at least 500 residents specifically urban poor.
  3. Promote legal awareness and access to credible and quality legal aid services to at least 300 indigent persons in the Ndumbu - ini community.
  4. Promote safe, and responsible care of pets by organizing a free veterinary clinic to reach out to at least 300 pet owners and treat at least 100 pets.
  5. Promote team building and talent development among residents and WMI community through a soccer match.
  6. Improve tree cover through tree planting and sensitization on urban and peri-urban forestry.
